The Ace of the second years student; Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire episode 8 impression
Episode 8 of Reborn to master the blade starts with the students from the first years doing their running routine with both instructor Marquess and Lady Ripple cheering on them. It's an easy work for our cute gramps right? Well, Inglis is a different breed of student since she is actually lifting the Flygear, which works as a platform to the leaders', while she herself joins the running. She doesn't even run out off stamina doing two exercises at the same time while the other students trying to catch their breath running. In term of strength, Inglis has been unrivaled until now so It is about time that the anime introduces a character with power level minimal on par with her to create more balance. Since this is different to One Punch Man in which Saitama; while being overpowered, gives other characters chance to show their worth; giving them enough screentime to have decisive battle with the main opponent. The idea of Saitama becomes invincible and overpowered main character has been redeemed with the quality of his peers (they are all powerful on their own) whose main job is to show how crazily overpowered is their opponent until Saitama comes and obliterate him/her using his punch. In contrast to One Punch Man, Inglis' companion (Leone or Lisellote) doesn't get that kind of treatment. Sure they are a capable combatants on their own. However, they don't fight with the known enemies in a specific one and one duel like the one we normally see on OPM. Therefore, the idea of Inglis Eucus hogging all of the spotlight needs to be balanced by introducing a stronger enemies/allies for her to do battle with
There are two more characters being introduced in this episode. The first one is, Silva; a green haired, glasses wearing, third years senior of the knight academia. His personality is that carbon copy of Lisellote when we first saw her. Yet in term of arrogance, he takes it up to the eleventh. For example, he discriminates both Inglis; as she is runeless, and Leone; being a traitor sister, and forbides them to choose an artifact. Inglis knows she doesn't need an artifact so she prefers to stay low. Normally when we see a character tends to be haughty and difficult to get along with, there is two paths available for them. It's either he is just a jerk with a heart of gold; who is acting rude but has a redeeming qualities (pretty much like Lisselote) or he is another villain in the making. However, the charismatic Silva is not the powerful individual that this episodes wants to introduce to the audiences.
Comes a pink haired girl with her lazy eyes (along with bored attitudes and a difficulty to remember names) who is also a squire just like Inglis. Her name is Yua and she doesn't feel interested with fighting. Therefore, after hearing Silva says how Squire doesn't need to participate in choosing the artifact, she instantly wants to leave the place and continue napping. What interesting is principle Miriela instantly asks her to stay; literally begging her that the Ace from the second years students should be present in case something goes wrong. Her banter with Silva later reveals that during their earlier mock battle, she won the fight. From this point forward, we instantly know how great her potential is and we're on treat to behold her capabilities because lady Ripple lost her consciousness afterward and the magicite beasts get summoned into the academia rooms.
What makes Yua a very interesting character is because she is the real anti thesis of Inglis herself. For instance, Inglis looks for stronger opponent to fight with while Yua doesn't bother to fight neither for approval nor excitement. In addition, she proves as an Inglis equal in some area. In fact, even with heightened gravity, Yua can jump faster than Inglis and when she bonk one magicite beast in the head, it looks like she just gently tap it heads, yet the sheer amount of impact makes it fell crashing down to the floor. In term of power level, she is on par with Inglis as both of them kept throwing the beasts all over the place as if they are playing ping pong with the poor beasts as the balls XD. Inglis who feels very excited seeing someone else with that amount of power keeps asking her for a duel but everytime she did, Yua instantly rejected her offer; basically she just making sure that Inglis doesn't get what she wants; a perfect counter for the cute gramps' challenging attitude. After finishing the battle with the beasts, lady Ripple regains her consciousness. Unfortunately, Both Inglis and Yua uses full power when dealing with those beasts and it makes environmental damages surrounding the academia rooms
For once Inglis' wish to fight strong opponent is granted. Lady Ripple tells her that she wants to taste Inglis' power first hand; which in turn makes the cute gramp very happy and enthusiastic. Before the match starts, Miriela gives an artifact for Leone to create a dimensional palace so that in the next Monsters summoning, the damage surrounding the area can be avoided. The battle between them takes place in the said dimensional area while their friends (Rani, Lisellote, Miriela, and Leone) watch the fight. Ripple mentions before that she and Silva makes a good team because as they continue fighting, it's revealed that she is also a gun wielding combatant. with a pair of golden gun on both hand, Ripple manages to keep Inglis from her reach for a while. For the first time ever Inglis summons an ice blade formed through her mana. Yes this is actually the time when Inglis finally uses sword instead of fighting bare handed. Not to mention that it is not even a real sword but an elemental sword made by pure mana which she just started to use. As Inglis gets closer to Ripple, she thought about how to strike her seemingly impregnable defence. Using Ripple's gun trajectory finally Inglis manages to send the bullet back at Ripple; making her bending backward and lose a few second of concentration. The battle is over when Inglis dashes forward and Crashes on Ripple body sending her flying into the dimensional wall.
As much as Inglis protest, her battle with Ripple comes to an abrupt end when the other realizing that Ripple absorbs the mana of the dimensional wall. The mystery of lady Ripple keeps losing consciousness and summons magicite beasts are finally revealed when she absorbs principle Miriela's mana. It seems that the Hieral Menace like Ripple absorbs a specific rune which is special like the one from Miriela and Rafael and when those mana are in full capacity, she lose consciousness and summons the beasts. Well, considering that she works closely with Rafael, it's obvious that she absorbs more mana than necessary; which in the end makes her kept summoning the beasts. Well the episode does finish with a big cliffhanger as Leone can't hold on the dimensional ward incantation. On the other hand, after absorbing Miriela's mana, Ripple fell unconscious once more and at that very moment a giant humanoid wolf like beasts drops and destroyed the the building. We knows there is a big battle nearby and we had to wait for a while to see it's continuation.
It's blade made from ice with mana, not Aether. Inglis can't create a sword of Aether, it's too complex for her.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, there's an other character that is on par with her : the boss of the Bloodsteel Front.
